Despite 70mm of rain before 9am, 40 people braved the weather to attend the annual Bendemeer Bull Sale on Thursday 25th November 2021. As has been the case for the past few years, Darren and Alice Marks and family of Winvic Pastoral joined us as invited vendors.

After an interesting and informative discussion from Paul Stapleton of PLF Australia, and Dr Diogo Costa and Justin Macor from CQU, we made the decision to open bidding on property at 11am in line with AuctionsPlus, as the rain was persisting!

Bidding was intense at times, with the online interface proving a huge benefit to buyers who couldn’t attend in person.

Top priced Bendemeer bull was Lot 1, a 26-month-old Braford bull, selling for $12,000 to Frankfield Pastoral Company.

Top priced Winvic Pastoral bull was Lot 22, a 25-month-old Braford bull, selling for $9,000 to Jeff & Sarah Cook.

At lunchtime, it became apparent that although our attendance was down, those that came were very likely to be staying longer than planned. Miclere and Carroll’s creeks flooded the highway in both directions, effectively rendering “Bendemeer” an island! Luckily by 5:30pm the road was safe and everyone took the opportunity to leave while they could!

We were very pleased with 100% clearance and overall sale average of $6,305. The Braford bulls performed well above this, with an average sale price of $7,714.

Thank you to all buyers and underbidders for your support.

Despite the reduced attendance due to the weather, we enjoyed the earlier break in the season, with green grass and running creeks abound.
We wish to inform everyone that moving forward we will hold our sale two weeks earlier than we have in the past. Mark Thursday 10th November 2022 in your bull-buying diary – we look forward to welcoming you to “Bendemeer”!

17th New Dimension Braford Sale held at Bell Showgrounds on 28th August 2021

This years sale was conducted in the new selling complex at the Bell Showgrounds. The multi-purpose design is for use by stud sales and also the Commercial Cattle section of the Bell Show, and has seen the construction of a permanent sale ring, and yards.

The sale also saw an increase in numbers offered, and number of vendors. With a combination of new vendors and some vendors returning after absences. The quality of all animals offered could not be faulted, and the large crowd that attended the sale would have walked away with that opinion. The New Dimension Sale doesn’t have the wide and diverse pool of buyers for bulls that you see at the National Sale. But there is a repeat purchase base that we are always trying to expand on. This year saw 20 out of 23 Braford Bulls sell to an average of $9 200 with a Top of $18,000. Thanks must go to the McQueens and Welbourn Hills Pastoral for attending the sale, as between them they purchased 11 bulls.

With the current demand for future breeders so that herds can be rebuilt, the committee was always pretty confident that the females would be an “easy sell”. 52 females were sold for a top of $8,000 to average $3,548 and 100% clearance.

There is always a great variance in the ages of females offered from Cows and Calves, PTIC females to those heifers not long weaned.

And its wonderful to see that there is demand for all these. With only registered females being offered, buyers know and appreciate that they can select from quality.

Our online presence with Elite Livestock Auctions meant that we had a large on line audience and saw a lot of bids made online particularly on the females. A charity auction was conducted of bags of Riverina XLR8 Weaner Pellets – these were purchased by the Donovan Family. The 2 ATV ramps kindly donated by Stuart Brown from Elite Motorcycles at Toowoomba were purchased by the McNamara family at Bell the total proceeds will be split between Lifeflight and Sisters of the North charities.

This year we tried something different and had the pre-sale dinner at the Bell Showgrounds, this was well attended, with vendors and purchasers attending.

We also had a few auction items, and these added a bit of entertainment to the night. Thanks to the South Qld Group for supplying the refreshments.
This year successful purchasers were presented with a gift pack, which contained a few goodies namely a New Dimension Sale Insulated Travel Mug, and fridge magnets, and Amy McNamara’s wonderful tomato relish.

A very strong market met with a very wet yarding at the Inaugural Special Feeder and Weaner Sale held on 2nd of July 2021 at the Clermont Saleyards. The event attracted an outstanding run of cattle of over 1500 head, with very good buyer attendance and attractive prize money for Breed Classes and Overall Pens.

After winning the Hereford infused pen of weaner steers, Winvic Pastoral took home the overall Champion Pen of Weaner Steers and prize money of $1000. Their Hereford x Braford Steers were judged top pen beating the other winning breed sponsored classes of Simmental, Charolais, Angus, Droughtmaster, Santa Gertrudis and Brahman infused steers. The Winvic steers topped the sale and sold to a NSW buyer for $1621/head or 538.2c/kg.
