Brafords Feature at Roma Store Sale

A total of 1170 head of Braford and Braford infused cattle were a highlight at the recent Roma Store Sale held on March 12. The Braford feature show & sale was held in conjunction with the weekly store sale, which attracted a very large offering of over 12,000 head.

Agents Watkins & Co with the support of the Australian Braford Society conducted the sale, which was well supported by Braford breeders.

Consignments of quality lines were drawn from Hughenden, Winton, Mitchell, Morven, Wandoan, Wallumbilla, Dulacca and St George.

Brafords sold to the top of the market on several occasions with keen interest from re-stockers and feedlot operators.

Regular supporter and commercial Braford breeder, Peter Ashman, Winton, sold a total of 376 head, including feeder steers 225kg/203.6c/kg to return $457.56 with the heifer portion of the draft reaching 156.2c/kg to return $322.

Theo and Jenny Watson, commercial breeders from Hughenden, were also prepared to make the return trip to Roma with a consignment of 326 head. Steers 335.8kg reached 179.2c/kg to return $601.67 and heifers 297kg / 159.2c/kg to return $472.82.

The Stewart family, Wycombe, St George offered 243 head. Light weight steers reached 180c/kg to return $480 and heifers 250kg to return $376.46.

Ray Kidd, Old Cashmere, St George sold an even line of 272kg heifers to 168.2c/kg returning $457.88.

Wandoan Braford breeders, Anthony and Casey Hay sold a quality line of steers to reach 181.2c/kg / 400kg to return $724.80.

Local Braford breeders, Del and Jonty Kehl from Wallumbilla offered a quality line of replacement heifers and feeder steers. Steers 280kg reached 188.2c/kg to return $528.41 with the heifer portion to 168.6c/kg to return $488.96.

The Whip family, Glenrowan, Morven offered 52 steers average weight 409.4kg for 169.2c/kg to return $692.74.

The Wilson Family, Redbank, Mitchell sold steers 528.3kg / 174.2c/kg to return $920.35.

John and Jackie Amor offered a line of replacement heifers, average weight 358kg to top the overall female portion of the sale at 200.2c/kg to return $717.38.
